  1. Lawful Collection & Processing of Information
We comply with applicable US and various jurisdictions privacy laws with respect to personal information, including those governing student educational records. If you access our services using a user profile that is subject to specific legal protections or contractual obligations with organizations, such as those identified in Section 9 (Notice to End Users) below, those obligations may take precedence and therefore may restrict our collection and use of personal and related information associated with your user profile.
  1. Types of Information We Collect
Our primary goal in collecting personal data is to provide visitors to our websites (the “Site”), our applications (including both mobile and web-based versions, (the “App”), and users of our other services with a superior customized experience. The following provides examples of the types of information (“Information”) that we may collect when you provide it to us, when you use our Site, App, or other services or when it is provided to us by other sources.
Context Types of Data
Website Inquiries and Contact Forms We may collect information you provide through contact forms or other inquiries on our Site or in our App. This may include your name, email address, organization name, role, any specific fields created to provide context for the specific form or inquiry, and any message or additional details you include. We use this information to respond to your request, qualify leads, and provide relevant information about our services. Information submitted through these forms may also be used to improve our support and marketing efforts.
Personalization and Onboarding Information When you use our services, we may collect information you provide to tailor your experience. This may include your selected language(s), learning goals, usage context (e.g., travel, school, business), preferences, occupation, and other onboarding responses. This information helps us personalize the content, features, and recommendations we provide to you. Depending on your account setup and status, some or all of this information may be stored in your user profile.
Account and Profile Information We collect various types of account and profile information when you use our services. This may include your name, username, email address, password, postal code, address, and other contact information. Depending on your use of the services and how your account is configured, we may also collect role (e.g. learner, instructor, administrator, etc.), organization, group affiliation and related group information (e.g., group name, language studied, learning goals, etc.), instructor name and contact information, and institution setup data. Additionally, we may collect usage data, assessment data, conversations with AI features and related conversation transcripts, user-generated content, recordings, IP address, user preferences and settings, and other personal or institutional data required to deliver and support the services. If your user profile permits family profiles, each added family profile may contain some or all of the same information listed above. The specific information collected may vary based on how and why you use the services. We may also collect additional categories of personal data from time to time as necessary to support new features, fulfill legal requirements, or improve our services. We will update this Privacy Policy if any such changes materially affect your rights.
Mango Reader App and Browser Extension If you use Mango Reader—whether as a browser extension or in app form—we may additionally have access to certain webpage, browsing, user interaction, data input, or platform information. While Mango Reader may have access to additional content displayed on webpages when active or being used, we do not collect or store such content unless it is necessary to support language learning features or part of a user-initiated interaction.  Our intention is to minimize data collection to only what is necessary to provide a superior language learning experience. For example, when you interact with content (such as clicking on words or phrases), we may process the selected text, surrounding context, and related page information to provide language learning features such as translation, linguistic information, audio playback, or other in-app tools. When you stream or view content from compatible video or multimedia streaming platforms, Mango Reader may enhance the user experience, provide transcript support, or provide other learning-focused overlays. In some cases, we may use trusted third-party service providers to support these features by helping us process selected inputs for learning-related purposes. Mango Reader may also include buttons or links that take you to third-party websites which accept selected words and phrases directly in the URL in order to provide definitions, conjugation tables, or similar reference content. These websites are external and are not affiliated with Mango. We do not control their content, privacy practices, or terms of use, and encourage you to review their policies before engaging with them. Mango Reader does not store browsing history on our servers. When using the Mango Reader app, browsing history and webpage bookmarks are collected by the app, but are only stored on your local device. We do not intentionally process unrelated webpage content or sensitive data. However, when the extension is active or when using the app, clicking on any portion of a webpage may result in that content being interpreted as a language learning interaction and processed accordingly. To help prevent unintentional processing of sensitive or private information, we ask that you disable the Mango Reader browser extension and not use the app when accessing webpages containing sensitive information or when not actively using it for language learning. A toggle is available within the browser extension to make it easy to turn off.
Live Instruction If you are participating in live instruction, we may additionally collect information related to scheduling (including scheduling restrictions, the reason for scheduling restrictions, time zone, and general location), attendance, participation, feedback, instructor or coach pairings, proficiency level, progress reports, class notes, AI-generated meeting notes, and recordings of live sessions. Session recordings are used solely for service delivery, support, and quality assurance.
Information we collect automatically when you use our services or access our Site or App When you visit our Site, App, or other services, we may automatically collect certain technical and usage information using cookies and other tracking technologies. This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifier, referring and exit pages, and general navigation behavior. Additionally, when you use our App or other services, we may automatically collect information that, by its nature, is generated through service usage. This includes data types already described in the ‘Account and Profile Information’ section above, such as usage data and assessment data.
Use of the services and user generated content Some user generated content may be shared by you, such as vocabulary cards.   You are in control of this setting.  We may scan or review your user generated content or share your user generated content with third-party content moderation service providers to ensure compliance.  If you use a feature that includes artificial intelligence (“AI”), your content may be shared with third parties when using these features. Please do not submit any personal or confidential information in your user generated content.
Cookies and First Party Tracking We use cookies and clear GIFs. “Cookies” are small pieces of information that a website sends to a computer’s hard drive while a website is viewed. See our Cookie Policy for more information. From time to time we may permit third-party companies to set cookies on our Site and/or App for purposes that may include analytics, market research, ad measurement, personalized advertising, revenue tracking, or to improve functionality.
Cookies and Third-party Tracking We may participate in behavioral advertising. This means that third-party services may use technologies (such as cookies and similar tools) to collect information about your use of the Site and/or the App in order to provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interests on the Site and/or the App, or on other websites or apps.
Demographic Information We may collect or infer limited demographic information as part of your user profile or through your interactions with the Site or App. This may include information such as zip code and IP address. We may also request additional information during form fills to serve your requests or address-related details when necessary for service delivery or account setup. In some cases, third-party analytics tools may provide us with inferred demographic characteristics such as age range or interests based on technical or behavioral data. We do not intentionally collect sensitive demographic data such as race, ethnicity, or gender, and we ask that you do not submit such information through our Sites or services.
Device and Connection Information We may collect information about your computer, phone, tablet or other devices you use to access our Site or App.  We also may collect information through your device about your operating system, browser type, IP address, URLs of referring/exit pages, device identifiers and crash data.  We may use your IP address and/or country preference to approximate your location in order to enhance your service experience, restrict access to certain content in regions where our licensors do not permit distribution, or comply with applicable law. How much of the information we collect depends on the type and settings of the device you use to access the Site, App, or other services.   Server and data center administrators can disable collection of many of these data points via the administrator settings or prevent this information from being disclosed to us by blocking transmission at the local network level.
Email Interconnectivity If you receive email from us, we use certain tools to capture data related to when you open our message, click on any links or banners it contains and make purchases.
Information and Feedback you Provide Through Support Channels If you provide us feedback or contact us for support, we may collect your contact information, such as your name and e-mail address, the content of your message, and related correspondence. This includes any follow-up messages or context you provide, which we use to respond to your request and improve our services. We may also automatically collect technical details related to your request, such as your IP address, browser type, or system settings, to assist with troubleshooting and service improvement. Additionally, if you choose to provide feedback on your support experience (e.g., through a customer service rating or satisfaction survey), we collect that input to help evaluate and improve our support performance.
Surveys and Feedback We may collect information through surveys or feedback forms to better understand user preferences, experiences, goals, or satisfaction with our products and services. Participation is optional. For users in K–12 and other settings where legal or contractual restrictions apply, we collect such information only as permitted by applicable law or contract. We may also use survey responses and feedback data, in de-identified or aggregate form where appropriate, to conduct studies or analyses intended to improve our services or contribute to broader understanding of learning outcomes. If a survey includes sensitive questions, we will seek separate consent where required.
Order Information We may collect information about orders placed such as subscriptions or items purchased, quantities, subscription status, order status, payment amount,  itemized order breakdowns or other typical invoice or order details.
Payment Information We may collect certain billing-related information when you place an order, such as your name, zip code, billing address, shipping address, email address, and phone number. The specific information collected may vary depending on the nature of your transaction. Credit card numbers and other sensitive payment details are collected on our behalf by a third-party payment processor that is certified to handle such data in accordance with applicable payment industry standards and data protection laws. We do not process or store credit card numbers or other sensitive payment details on our own servers.
Information Received from Other Sources We may receive information about you from our affiliates, third-party services, institutional clients, business partners, related companies, social media platforms, publicly available sources, or from our business and channel partners (“Third Party Sources”).  We may combine this information with data collected through other means described in this Privacy Policy. This may also include contact details collected at tradeshows, conferences, or other events, or manually entered into our CRM systems through business development efforts. This helps us to update and improve our records, identify potential customers, create more personalized advertising and suggest services that may be of interest to you.
Other partners We may receive information about you and your activities both on and off our services from third-party partners, such as advertising and market research providers who provide us with information about your interest in and engagement with our services or interactions with our online advertisements across other websites or platforms.
Third-party Providers. We may receive information about you from third-party providers of business information and publicly available sources (such as social media platforms).  This may include details such as physical mailing addresses, job titles, email addresses, phone numbers, intent data (or other user behavior data), IP addresses, social media profiles, and behavioral data such as intent signals or engagement indicators. We use this information to deliver personalized communications, promote relevant events, and target advertising for products and services that may interest you.
Professional or Employment-Related Information If you apply for employment with us, we may collect personal information as part of the recruitment process. This may include your name, contact details, resume or CV contents, qualifications, employment history, references, and other relevant information. We may receive such information directly from you or from third parties such as recruiters or background check providers. As part of the process, we may also administer assessments and receive test results, video or audio submissions, or other application-related materials. In some cases, we may collect sensitive personal data, such as background check results or biometric identifiers (e.g., fingerprints), where permitted by law.
In the event we receive personal data about you from Third Party Sources and we are required by law to notify you, we will do so and provide you with information about how we will use that data in accordance with applicable privacy regulations. In addition, we may perform statistical analyses of aggregate user behavior.

  1. Other Important Information
The following additional information relates to our privacy practices:
  • Transmission Of Information To Other Countries. When you provide Mango with personal information through the Site, App or our other services, the information may be stored on servers located in the United States. As a result, your information may be processed in a foreign country where privacy laws may be less stringent than the laws in your country. Nonetheless, where possible, we take steps to treat personal information using the same privacy principles that apply pursuant to the law of the country in which we first received your information.  By submitting your personal information to us you agree to the transfer, storage, and processing of your information in a country other than your country of residence including, but not necessarily limited to, the United States.  If you would like more information concerning our attempts to apply the privacy principles applicable in one jurisdiction to data when it goes to another jurisdiction, you can contact us using the contact information below. You may also request a copy of any Standard Contractual Clauses we use for the transfer of your data outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes the categories of information transferred by contacting us using the contact information below.
  • Third-party Applications/Websites. We have no control over third-party websites or applications, which are not subject to this Privacy Policy.  We do not endorse, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content on third-party sites.  We recommend that you read the privacy policy for any such sites you visit.
  • Updates To This Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy is effective as of the date mentioned above. From time to time, we may make changes to this Privacy Policy statement to reflect any changes to our privacy practices in accordance with changes in legislation, best practice, or modifications or enhancements to our operations, Site, App, or other services. We will notify you about material changes to this Privacy Policy by one or more of the following methods: posting the new version  on our Site, by sending a notice to the email address you provided to us, or by placing a prominent notice on our Site.
  • If you are visually impaired, you may access this notice through your browser’s screen reader.
  • No Automated Decision-Making. We do not use personal data to make decisions that are based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal effects or similarly significantly affects individuals.
  • Children, Parental Consent and Privacy. Persons under the age of 16 located in the European Union and under the age of 13 located in the Unites States (individually, “Child” and collectively, “Children”) are not permitted to use Mango’s services without verifiable parental consent.  A Child may join a parent’s account under a family profile.  The parent is responsible to select the Content Settings to an age-appropriate level for the Child profile. Certain content may be removed based on the Content Settings with the aim of meeting age appropriateness.

A Child and his/her parents or guardians will have access to that Child’s Personal Data and have the ability to delete or change that information at any time. 1. Notice to End Users
For our services made available by organizations, including libraries, schools, government agencies, companies, and other institutions (“Organizations”), we provide this notice to Organizational end users. When you access our services through an Organization, that Organization is the administrator of the services and is responsible for the organizational account of which your user profile is a part of. If that Organization is the controller of personal data (as defined under the GDPR and applied broadly in all jurisdictions) then they determine the purpose and means of processing your personal information as it relates to your user profile with us. In such cases, please direct any data privacy questions to the Organization’s administrator, as we may be limited in our ability to assist you directly. We are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of an Organization (whether they act as the controller or not), which may differ from this Privacy Policy. If you have concerns about the privacy practices of the Organization through which you access our services, please contact their administrator. Organization Administrators may be able to:
  • View user statistics
  • View their account and user Information associated with their account

Some Organizations choose to limit their access to personal data even for their own administrators.  For example, most public libraries have elected not to have access to personal information within their account with us, favoring user anonymity. Instead, they receive access to aggregated statistics that do not include personal information. Even if your use of the services is not currently via an Organization, if you use an email address provided by an organization (such as your work email address) to access the services, then the owner of the domain associated with your email address may assert administrative control over your user profile or account and use of the services at a later date. Please contact your Organization or consult its policies for more information.
