Inside the tool students were already signing into
New Caney ISD introduced Mango for the 2020 school year across its secondary ESL and LOTE classrooms. Teachers who had been burned by previous online applications were the first hurdle. The district needed something students would take to immediately, in a platform families already knew how to use.
Mango Classroom integrates with Canvas, so it landed inside the tool students and parents were already signing into, and met the district's security and privacy standards without a separate review. English Learner Specialist Genesis Hurst worked the program across every grade level, gathering what raised participation for students and for teachers, and feeding it back into how the district rolled it out.

What changed
Past the classroom, into Parent Nights
Teachers who had been hesitant from previous experience with online applications were won over by how quickly students took to it. The district has logged more than 40,000 learning sessions since introducing Mango for the 2020 school year.
Use spread well past the classroom. Mango turns up at New Caney's Parent Nights, in a Faculty Spanish Club, and in staff ESL courses. The district set out to engage its whole community and now plans to push that further.
