Activity 1: ‘Die alte Postkarte’ (the old postcard)
In the attic, you found an old postcard, but you don’t recognize the name. How mysterious! Of course, your family members have many questions about the card. Take a close look at the postcard. then pick an answer to each question from the answer box, based on the information on the card.

Lieber Bruder Emil!
Ich sende dir Grüße aus Bad Godesberg. Ich bin hier im Rheinhotel Dressen. Das Hotel ist nicht teuer. Ein Zimmer kostet 10 Mark. Gestern fuhr ich zur Burg Eltz. Ich hatte Großvaters altes Buch darüber gelesen und wollte sie gern sehen. Eine wunderbare Burg! Es waren auch fünfzig andere Touristen dont. Ich lernte eine junge Dame namens Marie und ihre Eltern kennen. Sie kamen auch aus Berlin.

Activity 2: ‘Wer,’ ‘was,’ or ‘wo’-compound
You and your theater troupe are going to put on a play! But someone poured coffee over the only copy of the script and now important parts are missing. Strangely, only the interrogative pronouns have dissolved into puddles of ink! Based on the dialogue, decide whether you need was, a form of wer or a wo-compound to ask for the underlined nouns, pronouns or prepositional objects.

Ein junger Mann steht vor einem Haus. Aus der Tür kommt eine alte Frau.
Frau: suchen Sie?
Mann: Ich suche meine Schwester. Aber sind Sie? Das ist das Haus meiner Schwester.
Frau: Ich heiße Anna, aber ich kenne sie nicht. warten Sie hier?
Mann: Ich warte auf meine Schwester. Sie heißt auch Anna, aber sie ist viel jünger als Sie. gehört das Haus?
Frau: Das Haus gehört mir.
Mann: Aber… dann bin ich ihr Bruder.
Frau: sollen Sie sein!?
Mann: Ich bin Ihr Bruder!
Frau: Nein, das kann nicht sein. Ich hatte einen Bruder, aber er hat eine Reise gemacht und ist nie zurückgekommen. Er wäre jetzt ein alter Mann.
Mann: Testen Sie mich! Stellen Sie mir Fragen! Ich bin es wirklich!
Frau: hat mein Bruder immer gesessen?
Mann: Das weiß ich noch! Auf einem Schaukelstuhl aus blauem Holz.
Frau: Und hat er seinen Apfelsaft getrunken?
Mann: Aus einer kleinen weißen Tasse.
Frau: Du bist es wirklich! Aber, wo warst du so lange? And warum bist du nicht alt, wie ich?
Activity 3: ‘Das Freundschaftsalbum’
In Germany, many school children have a Freundschaftsalbum(friendship book). In these books, there is a page that each friend can fill with fun facts about themself to create a memory book.Today, you will fill out your own friendship book page: write either Was für ein___?and Welch___? with the correct endings and then write your own fun facts about yourself.
Tip:
Use welch__ if there is a choice between several items, use was für ein__ if the question is about a type or kind of thing.
