Activity 1: Diminutives with ‘-chen’

Create the diminutive for the following nouns using -chen. Include the definite article. Remember that the gender might change, and you might need to add some umlauts!

  • der Elefant → das Elefäntchen

  • die Straße →

  • der Teufel →

  • die Bienen (plural) →

  • die Faust →

  • die Hand →

  • die Hasen (plural) →

  • der Fuß →

  • der Kopf →

  • das Messer →

Activity 2: Diminutives with ‘-lein’

Create the diminutive for the following nouns using -lein. Include the definite article. Remember that the gender might change, and you might need to add some umlauts!

  • der Bach → das Bächlein

Activity 3: What’s the non-diminutive form?

Change the following diminutive forms back to their original form. Include the definite article. Don’t forget that you might need to change the gender or remove some umlauts!
