Activity 1: ‘no’ or ‘none’?

Use either no or none in the following sentences. Remember, no is an adjective and none is a pronoun!

  • My friend had a party but guests came. She was disappointed.

  • I took a road trip last Tuesday. of my friends could join me because they all had to work.

  • Patty called to say she had some news. We had idea what to expect.

  • It was rush hour, but we had to catch a plane. There was way to avoid the traffic.

  • I wanted some peach yogurt, but the store was out of it. There was left in the store.

  • The teacher asked all of us, but we didn’t know the answer. of us knew the answer.

  • After I bought those shoes, I was out of cash. I had money left to buy lunch.

  • Muriel wanted to make a chocolate cake, but she hadn’t gone shopping. She had of the ingredients.

  • When we got to the cabin, the electricity was shut off! of the lights were working.

  • There was a long line at the bank this morning. We had choice but to wait.

  • The snow storm blocked all the doors and windows of the house. There was hope of escape.

  • Because of the snow storm, public transportation was a problem. of the buses were running.

  • My boss just gave me two new assignments. I have time to finish the old project!

  • Patty was dancing, but there was music.

  • When Mark first moved to Dallas, he didn’t know anybody. He had friends in the city.

  • I’ve looked everywhere for information. I found answers.

  • Mr Jones gave a really hard math test last Thursday. of his students passed the test!

Activity 2: A classical music concert

Now use no and none in this story about going to a concert.

The Concert

Last week, I went to a classical music concert at the Civic Center. Because the concert was on a Tuesday, of my friends could come with me, so I went alone. The concert was really good, but when I got there, there were seats left. There was announcement that it was sold out! Fortunately, after I waited, guest had claimed seat 13f, so I got to see the concert anyway. It was an all-woman orchestra, so of the musicians were men. The orchestra was perfect, but there were programs left for me, so I knew of the composers! It was a wonderful experience, but I was sorry of my friends could share it with me!
