Exception!

There is not a contraction of the preposition de/em/por + definite article in the following structure:
de/em/por + definite article + noun + infinitive verb.

  • Há a possibilidade de a aula começar mais cedo.

    There is the possibility that the class will start earlier.

  • A solução está em o estudante fazer toda a tarefa.

    The solution is for the student to do the entire homework.

  • Ele esperou por o João chegar.

    He waited for João to arrive.
